ទំព័រគំរូ:proto/doc
This template is used for references to reconstructed languages from etymologies in the main namespace. The reference is wikilinked, but blue only if the appendix entry exists.
Usage
កែប្រែ{{proto|Germanic|haglaz|hail}} {{proto|gem-pro|haglaz|hail}}
both reference Appendix:Proto-Germanic/haglaz and display as Lua error in Module:etymology/templates at line 28: The language, family or etymology language code "ទំព័រគំរូ:langrev/Proto-gem-pro" is not valid.. *{{ Script error: The function "lookup_language" does not exist.|lang=ទំព័រគំរូ:langrev/Proto-gem-pro|face=term|[[ឧបសម្ព័ន្ធ:Script error: The function "lookup_language" does not exist./haglaz|haglaz]]}} (“hail”)
Parameters
កែប្រែ- The first parameter is for the language name without "Proto-", or the ISO 639-5 code of the language family of which the language is the reconstructed ancestor
- the second one for the etymon (root/stem/whatever), without the asterisk
- and the optional third parameter is for a translation/gloss of the term (include whatever quotes or wiki markup are desired)
The second and third parameters can be repeated thrice more. Remember that a parameter can be left blank with ||.
It uses {{unicode}}
as a script template.
- lang
- the lang=xx parameter (language codes) must be used on non-English entries to categorize the derivation correctly.
- lang=en will work correctly, but is not needed.
- lang= will prevent categorization in a derivations category, and must be used if linking to a reconstructed term that is not an ancestor, for instance when mentioning as a cognate.
- title
- The parameter title=title can be used to replace the text "Proto-language";
- title=[[title]] to wikilink it, or
- empty title= to hide it.
Additional parameters are pos for the part of speech or other non-gloss descriptor of the etymon and lit for a literal meaning of the etymon. Each of these can be used in addition to or instead of a gloss. The parameters pos2 and lit2, pos3 and lit3, and pos4 and lit4 apply to the fourth, sixth, and eighth parameters, respectively.
Policy
កែប្រែUse of this template is required by policy; it permits moving these entries to a different namespace, and/or making other changes to the way these references are used and displayed.
This template should be used for all such references, so that it is possible to find them with Whatlinkshere, and so that the reference text can be tweaked or customized.
Note that it doesn't provide for "root" or "noun" in the entry name, the entries probably shouldn't be named that way (we don't put parts-of-speech in the entry names anywhere else?)
